Prescription for Surrender

I've been listening to all the analysis of the Iraq Study group report trying to form my thoughts. Then I read Newt's newsletter (if he doesn't run for President in '08, I'll be extremely disappointed) and it completely captured everything I was thinking, especially concerning Iran and Syria, so I'll just link to it. Also if we leave Iraq in any capacity before they are able to fully defend themselves, we will pay for it big time in the future.

I know you are a big fan of his but I'm just not a Newt fan. I don't trust him. To some it may sound crazy but even now I really think Bush did exactly what he had to do. I hope history will show that. I think hind sight is always 20/20 but also reevaluation of the situation is appropriate. I pray Bush listens to suggestions, prays hard for direction, and listens more to what God says. He will be held accountable first and formost to his maker.

What don't you trust about him?

There is no doubt whatsoever that we did the right thing in Iraq. I'm glad the President is taking his time to ensure he hears from everyone and goes forward with a plan that will bring VICTORY in Iraq and get us further in the war on terror.

Just a gut feeling thing. I have followed his words and actions since the Clinton years and I know he talks the talk but I just don't get a good vibe, never have really. He always seems like just another politician to me.

Tiger, did you read the article about Bono and his dissapointment with the Democrats? It's on Drudge, check it out.

You'd want an adulterer to run for President?!

I'm a fan of Newt's mind. I'm not sure about him being Prez though. BUT...I know we could be stuck with worse.

FI and Nick...I've met him a couple of times and always came away with a great impression not to mention his weekly newsletter is always spot on with how I feel.

Anon...is that a reference that he cheated on a spouse (if so never heard that before) or that he has been married several times and thus committing adultery on his first wife? I would much rather someone who doesn't have that in his past, but unfortunately the world we are living is leaving us fewer and fewer options of married for life people.

Ron...very true...lots that are way worse.

Cajun,

I too think Newt is pretty sharp on a lot of this stuff. And he rightly addresses solutions that he believes will work. That to me was exactly what the ISG did. Agree or not, at least they were different options to what the Admin was doing.

But they also defined what is happening in Iraq as "grave and deteriorating." And Newt has agreed, saying the administration has been a "failure" up to this point.

Newt is one of the few conservatives I have heard that has been able to say that and not get ripped as a defeatist. I am trying to figure our why that is.

I think Newt would be a plus to the campaign, because he is an idea man. I do not think he can get elected because entrenched parties, both the Dems and the GOP, do not like visionaries.

As for his adultery, I believe anon is talking about Newt serving his wife with divorce papers as she was in recovery after surgery so he could marry his girlfriend.
