No More Consensus?

In an updated survey of all scientific papers concerning the climate from 2003-2007, only 45% now lay the blame of our current warming cycle on humans. And of the 528 papers, only 1 says that the climate change will lead to catastrophic results.

I still don't understand why you get so worked up about this. Even if it's untrue that humans are to blame, why spend so much energy in trying to clear our name? The Bible tells us to be good stewards of our earth, and obviously we're not (on multiple levels), so if the "humans are heating up the earth" campaign can get us to be more stewardly of our resources (even if global warming and human activity are not linked), isn't it a good thing overall?

I'd rather see you spend this passion on convincing fellow humans to be more eco-responsible rather than spend so much effort on debunking the warming-human activity link. do you see what I'm getting at?

I think the reason I get so worked up on this issue is because it touches three areas that are all part of my background, science, politics and Christian.

It is bad science. It is being driving purely by politics. And I think that if we were to just let them have their way, a lot of things we would have to do wouldn't be in line with my Christian responsibilities.

If it were only an issue of being a good steward, I'd agree with you. However, the policies they are recommending to stop something we aren't causing will do way more harm, especially to the poor and third world nations. For example, using corn as a fuel. How can we justify using one grain of corn for fuel when we still have billions of people starving worldwide. I'm all for stoping pollution and things that are actually hurting the environment, but CO2 is not a pollutant and comes out of the earth 97% naturally and there is no proof that it is warming the earth other than as a natural cycle.

ok that I understand. it's bad politics leading to bad policies.

I'd add it is bad science that is being used with bad politics to make bad policies. Canada brags that they are spending billions a year in order to stop global warming. When they realize it is something that is completely natural and nothing we can do to stop and will in time reverse itself like all cycles do, how will they explain all the billions wasted that could have been used to do some real good.
