Absolutely Pathetic!
I'm obviously disappointed that Woody Jenkins lost his race this past weekend. However, what gets me even more is the absolutely pathetic turnout. Only 23% of eligible voters voted in the race. That is so sad on so many levels, not the least being that there are members of the military and Iraqis dying here every day for the freedom we as Americans enjoy. Yet, the very people who are enjoying that freedom the most of any nation can't even find the time to exercise that freedom by voting.

Sawyer Attack Backfires
In the special election for Louisiana's 6th Congressional District, one candidate is showing that negative attacks can definitely backfire in a big way when they are so blatantly false. Paul Sawyer launched an attack filled with lies and distortions, and due to that his campaign has imploded. He has fallen from a comfortable second place position to third in just a few days.
With the election only one day away, the new second place holder, Laurinda Calongne, may want to watch her back because Sawyer will need to come after her strong if he wants to regain his second place position for a chance in a runoff.
Calongne would make an easy target for Sawyer due to her financial support of democratic Senator Mary Landrieu and Congressman Charles Melacon. From March 2006 to March 2007, she gave $3000 in donations to Melancon, and in May of 2007, she gave Landrieu $1000 according to opensecrets.

Blanco Still Trying to Blame Everyone Else
In former LA Gov Blanco's first speech outside LA, she lays nearly all blame once again on President Bush and FEMA , but takes hardly no responsibility for any failures on her administration. She even goes as far as to say had Clinton been President the catastrophe wouldn't have happened.
My question always is, who was President for all the hurricanes that hit Florida in 2004 and 2005. Who was President when Katrina hit Mississippi and Alabama. Who was President when Rita hit Texas? Seems to me that the federal response was very adequate for every other hurricane except when one hit LA. Hmmm...could that suggest that the problem wasn't with the federal government but instead the state government....nah...that would make too much sense.

Woody Jenkins for Congress
I just found out that Woody Jenkins is running in the special election to replace retiring Congressman Richard Baker. The first campaign I ever worked on was back in 1996 when Woody ran for US Senate. I can't believe that was 12 years ago!!!
If you are in Baton Rouge, get out and help any way you can. For everyone else, this is one race you want to support as much as possible. Woody is definitely the type of man we desperately need in Washington. The primary is March 8th, so time is short. Let's do our best to see that he gets there this time as he should have in '96.

What's Missing?
Ok...let's play a game. Read this AP article on Jefferson's indictment. Then, let me know what is missing. Tomorrow I'll post the answer if no one guesses correctly.

Jefferson Indicted
No surprise here, but Rep. "Cold Cash" Jefferson (D-LA) was indicted today. Let's see how long it takes the Dems to move to remove him from leadership positions.

Blanco is Out!
PoliticsLA.com is reporting that LA Gov. Blanco is dropping out of the Governor's race. I can't believe she ever thought she stood a chance in the first place after her complete meltdown during Katrina. I still don't think this was totally her decision, but more likely extreme pressure for the State party.
