Will Smoke Become "Fired"?

For the first time in 16 years (an NCAA record), LSU is not hosting an NCAA Regional for baseball.

Welcome to my world. Oh, how it hurts. With the state of Florida void of a regional, maybe I'll get lucky and be able to see my Canes play the regional in Houston.

Good question!

Latest "rumor" is Rick Jones of Tulane...whatever. I would like to see Bianco but he's not leaving Ole Miss.

Dup...definitely feel your pain.

MHebert...neat articles

Ron...you can never count anyone out...LSU would be a huge draw for anyone due to the size and support of the crowd and the ability to pay lots more than most places.

an inside source who knows somebody who is close to skip bertman has told me that Smoke is going to take a VOLUNTARY retirement

I think you LSU guys need to remember something, guys like Bertman come only once every 20-40 years. Ya'll had the same problem this past season. Coach Miles was in his first season, had just lost to Tennessee, and 95% of LSU was already calling for his head because LSU's national championship hopes we out the window. Smoke isn't a great coach, but do you expect a Skip Bertman or Nick Saban every time? If so, ya'll will be disappointed more times than not.

Nick...you are right in that LSU fans' expectations are pretty high...especially in baseball after winning 5 national championships in 10 years. However not making it to a regional which means you aren't even in the top 64 of the country is definitely hitting bottom by those standards.

the thing is though is that we are getting worse every year with Laval. This is similar and different to the situation with John Brady. Although for years we were going nowhere with Brady he did have to deal in the beginning with the fact that the NCAA screwed us over by putting us on probation because of Lester Earl even though they concluded the coaches didn't know he was taking money
