Wal-Mart Facts

For all you liberal Wal-Mart haters out there, find a unionized company in America that can boast these numbers.

"World wide WalMart employee's 1.3 million people. In the United States they employee 275,000 African Americans, 150,000 Hispanics, 240,000 Senior Citizens over 55 years of age. I go to Walmart but I am also glad that their empire is beginning to crumble. BALANCE is so impotant in this world. That's why im glad Target keeps the world of megga stores balanced.

I do not see their empire crumbling. I see deliberate efforts to make it crumble. This is dangerous to our free market system. I have no problem with balance but have a major problem with efforts to destroy one and hence this amounts to supports to another. Walmart and McDonalds are the whipping boys of the liberal left. They are among the best as the stats show for Walmart, in their particular arenas in terms of what they do for their employees and in terms of their hiring practices.

JG...well said. You can also include Microsoft to that list.

FI...like JG said it isn't crumbling on its own. For example, in Maryland they just passed a tax that only applies to companies with more than 50,000 employees in the state. Take a wild guess how many companies meet that criteria.......one...Wal-Mart.

It is a total attack b/c the unions are upset they don't have access to the millions of employees Walmart employees so they pressure the Dems who they control to do things that hurt Walmart hoping to get them to cave in to the union thugs.

If you look in to Wal-mart a little more you will see it's not all that. Ask the suppliers that had to go out of business or move there business over seas because they got the Wal-mart business, then could not make it cheaper. Theres more than one and think back when they first started to get big in the early 80's and 90's there big thing was "Buy American" now look at this site I found then lets see what you think.

I really don't get why people hate Wal-mart. I think they are awesome for consumers. And I heard a financial guy say one time that they treat their employees fairly well because a lot of people continue to want to work there.

Also, a lot of the mom & pop stores that they put out of business were ripping consumers off big time and a lot of those mom & pop stores were in poor neighborhoods.

Ya'll need to check out WalMart's newest move. Visit www.frc.org (Tony Perkins group)They are really screwing up their family friendly image. They have partnered with the National Gay and Lesbian Chamber of Commerce. I still shop there, but I am questioning whether I should continue with this newest move.
Dean is right. The label now reads "Hecho in Mexico" or "Made in China". They did 33 billion $ in business this past june.George.

dean...that's the point...they can choose to do business however they like and then if we decide we don't like the way they are doing business then we can decide to shop there or not. It is the government forcing them to do certain things b/c of pressure from unions that I'm opposed to.

LMC & B...agree

George...I saw that on FRC's email as well and it gave me pause, but like I said to Dean, we can now choose on our own to shop there or not based on this info. The government should not be forcing them to do things as a company that the only purpose is to hurt them b/c they don't unionize.

Living in Norway I don't have to go there so I guess I'm lucky:-)

I have had three different jobs that were in one way or another connected to Walmart.
Dean, you know good and well that Walmart is the reason your bills are getting paid, not Coke. You Walmart bashers better hope that Walmart continues to grow, if their sales drop off, the economy drops off as well. Competition not balance is more important here!

Pondering...thanks for the link and very good posts, especially the emirate one!

Ok, yes, the government shouldn't set out to destroy a corporation BUT we as consummers can have an opinion about a company, we can base that opinion on different articles written, facts presented by statistics, etc. and if we as consumers vote to make laws that put a tighter reign on these big companies then it is us, the consumer, who is making the choice.

I think there has to be a balanced view of government and our part in it. We fight for laws everyday that effect big companies, social and fiscal.

I know you think the media and the government is being unfair to Wal Mart but when you are that huge and control that much of the market share, you have to know you are going to be scrutinized more closley by consumers and goverment and they should be, they are monopolizing and pushing smaller businesses out so they better be ready to show their integrity.

When we as consumers are presented with all the facts and make a decision, the company in question should do what it takes to get our business back, if that holds Walmart accountable then that is a good thing.

I know of no business regulation that was ever voted on by the citizens. They are all forced on businesses by the government. There is no provision any where in the Constitution that gives the Federal Govt. any authority to regulate private businesses.

I'm extremely pro-market and if left to itself the market will dictate which businesses fail and which succeed. Walmart is no where near a monopoly as there is lots of competition.
