Happy Independence Day, Cajun!

By the way, point of order: Your sidebar is wrong.

Islam declared war on the world with Mohammed's "revelations" fourteen centuries ago.

Islam declared war specifically on the United States of America for the first time more than two centuries ago when the Barbary Coast pirates, the "jihadis of the sea", made unprovoked attacks on US shipping in the Mediterranean. Europe was cow-towing to them back then, too.

It took a US military expeditionary force to get the jihadis to reconsider their ill-conceived actions.

"From the Halls of Montezuma to the Shores of Tripoli...."

That's Tripoli, in what is now Libya -- a major home of the eighteenth-century seafaring mujahideen.

Your sidebar has the declaration of war as only two thousand and some-odd days ago... off by a couple of centuries....

;)

What a great rendition of a great American song. Always brings tears to my eyes to see Old Glory and hear the very American tunes. I love this holiday. I love America.

God bless America.

YD...Mohammed declared war on the non-Muslim world first when the Jews in a city near Medina wouldn't help him in his fight against Mecca. That was when he started having "new revelations" saying it was ok to kill innocents.

I'd say we won the war on the Barbary pirates, so that war is over. God Bless the Marines!

The start date I most often refer to is the date of the Iran hostage attack in 79. From then until 9-11 we let them go pretty much unanswered for multiple attacks.
