The Defeat Caucus

The Senate Dems (minus Lieberman) have joined the House Dems (minus a few brave members) to embolden our enemy and do their absolute best to hand victory over to our enemies with their vote to stipulate a deadline for troops to be out of Iraq completely against their Constitutional authority and the advice of the military leaders. The saddest thing in this whole mess is the fact that the only way they could pass this horrible bill is by bribing and blackmailing unprincipled Dems with pork for their districts.

yes, because our enemies need emboldening and actually give a crap what our congress does.

Congress could declare Allah supreme ruler of the universe and Al Qaeda would still want to kill every American on the planet.

Southpaw...I promise you the leaders of Al Qaeda know way more about what our leaders do and say than probably 90% of Americans do and it very much effects what they do. I saw the truth of that almost daily when I was there on nearly every piece of propaganda found. They use the words of the defeatists Dems against the us with the Iraqi citizens big time.

So, please tell me how setting a deadline for when our troops will leave in any way does anything but help the enemy?

Please tell me how setting a deadline in any way encourages the citizens of Iraq to want to help us knowing we are leaving whether they can protect themselves or not and that after we leave they will be slaughtered if they help us?

slaughtered after we leave?

what do you call what is going on now, a utopia?

cajun tiger...i will be anonymous until i can register, but it was nice to visit with you at lunch last wednesday. thanks for the tour. my question is what do we do about the biggest problem our country faces in this age of terrorism? this problem is the fact the dems don't understand that we are fighting a war on terror at all. and even if they do, they have no clue on how to deal with it. the fact is and it is proven in every aspect of life, that problems must be dealt with at the root. iraq is where they are and i like fighting them there much better than over here. just like in sports, you can't play sports on defense only, or you would never win, and you might get killed. this ofcourse is what the dems want, not to win.

I don't think the GOP understands it all too well, either. This is an unconventional enemy fighting an unconventional war, and the current administration thinks it's a good idea to fight in a conventional style with conventional tactics.

Not too bright, on both ends of the aisle.

PS- Iraq is not where "they" are. Go read a copy of the 9/11 commission report and the Iraq study group report. "They" are in Afghanistan, Pakistan, Indonesia, UAE, Yemen, Saudi Arabia, Somalia, Syria, and a bunch of other places.

I agree many in the GOP are scared too. We don't have many heros like Samuel Adams and John Hancock and many of our other founding fathers who faced fear straight in the face for the cause of freedom.

And leftist, I know the enemy is all over the world, but many of them are in Iraq and the example we leave in Iraq will make a statement to terrorists all over the world. Unfortunately the world is seeing a country in the US that does not believe it can win. How sad we don't believe in ourselves.

I am sure you have heard the saying, "Winners never Quit, and Quitters never Win". That little quote has more meaning about life and success than any quote ever spoken.

The leftist southpaw said...

oh really?

more than "Do unto others what you would have done unot yourself?"

The leftist southpaw said...

Southpaw, I though in a previous post you wrote that bot parties are guilty of eating at the pork trough. Now it's just "unprincipled dems?"

How about some consistancy?

Speaking of unprincipled, how many Dems sworn into the 109th congress are currently in jail or under indictment?

(And don't give me your Rep. Jefferson crap, I said in jail or under indictment.)

The leftist southpaw said...

oops, I meant "CT", not "Southpaw"

too early to be blogging!

Southpaw...you've said a lot so let's see if we can pull it all together.

If you think things are bad in Iraq now, you have no idea how bad it will get if we pull out. Millions will be slaughtered as the comparatively small civil unrest that is occuring now will turn in a country wide full out civil war that will result in the similar killing fields of Vietnam, Cambodia and Loas after we left too soon then. But then again, Libs seem to forget that piece of history of the Vietnam era.

You also didn't answer my question in how will setting a deadline help our troops and the Iraqi citizens as opposed to helping the enemy?

As far as Anon's point he is absolutely correct. 100s of foreigners are captured or killed entering Iraq almost weekly if not daily at times. This war is the defining mark on how the rest of the war on terror will be fought and either lost or won. Granted we have to continue to change tactics as we have done and continue to do, but Al Qaeda knows if they can get us to retreat from Iraq w/o a very clear victory, then they are the victors and God help us b/c it will be even harder the next time b/c we will have to go back.

I'll address your other two points in the next comment.

Cajun Tiger said...

You are correct in that I said both parties are guilty of using pork to get members of their party to vote for a bill. However, never before has it been done at the expense of troops in the field or as a way to try and subvert the President's Constitutional authority. It is wrong in both cases and needs to be reformed, however the two don't even come close in the depravity of using it to stop the war in a back door manner completely against constitution authority.

As far as arrest and indictments, I really don't think you want to start a comparsion of which party has more. The Repubs may have more in the 109th as of now, but go back in time further and let's wait a few years and see where the numbers line up.

The leftist southpaw said...

sorry, my time machine is in the shop. What say we live in the now?

How many people currently in prison were members of the GOP in the 109th congress? I believe the answer is two, and Tom DeLay may not be far behind. How many dems? I believe zero.

Cajun Tiger said...

Very convenient time to lose the "time machine" when this time is best for your argument.

The leftist southpaw said...

if you want to live in the past, I can bring up Teapot Dome and Watergate. How's that?

Cajun Tiger said...

I'd be more than happy to go back as far as you like and do a comparison. Then let's do the same thing in 5 years.

It is a DEMOCRATIC utopia, we leave and it devolves into a repeat of Southeast Asia. How many MILLIONS were slaughtered. How many will die this time around. Their blood is on YOUR hands, Southpaw.

slaughtered after we leave?

The leftist southpaw said...

uh, sure. whatever you say...

I oppose a war responsible for 3,000 plus dead americans and there's blood on MY hands?

well, rock me to sleep tonight...

The whole thing is just sad and pathetic.

Leftist...3,000+ killed fighting for our freedom is very, very sad but an unfortunate and necessary cost. Statiscally, it's nothing compared to what others in the past have paid for the freedom you are totally enjoying right now. if i wasan't too old, i would go to irag right now to fight and if my two young sons want to go, i will support them 100%. how many people are dying in our own country every year from murderers and thugs, for nothing.

this is coming from someone whose entire family has been in war including Vietnam. My Stepfather was a Green Beret and saw buddies killed in hand to hand combat. He survived to be a pulitzer prize winning editorial writer. I know what happened in Vietnam, and it will happen in Iraq.

It's got nothing to do with Do UnTo Others.

The leftist southpaw said...

"our" freedom?

I felt pretty free before we invaded Iraq. In fact, if anything, my freedoms were curtailed AFTER the invasion.

Try again. Your arguments are banal, simplistic, and cliche. I'm having fun with this.

Anonymous said...

Why do yall continue to argue with Southpaw?? it's a waste of time!! he believes what he believes just like you believe what you believe. Each of you is trying to be "right". Well give it up b/c when you argue with a fool, you become one.

Anonymous said...

Simplistic works! Cliche Works! You are exactly right Leftist. Very simplistic commonssense goes a long way in this world. Too bad our government has abandoned it.

You felt pretty free before Iraq? Okay, I agree. But 9/11 changed our responsibility as a country both here at home and around the world.

But I agree with the other Anonymous who wrote in. There is no way to argue with somebody who just simply doesn't get it. I am sorry to have gotten caught up in it.

The leftist southpaw said...

you're right. You don't get it.

Cajun Tiger said...

The only reason we felt safe before 9-11 b/c the huge majority of Americans had no clue that whether we admitted it or not, we have been in a war against radicals since at least '79. 9-11 finally woke everyone up. It is so sad that so many have forgotten so quickly.

Southpaw...please tell me what will happen in Iraq and the region if we pull out our troops next year before Iraq is capable of protecting itself?

Ian McGibboney said...

9/11 didn't wake me up. I was pretty up on the Taliban and Osama bin Laden years before that disaster. In fact, I'm suspicious of anyone who says they were awakened on 9/11 or, even worse, have had their political beliefs shaped by it.

Even a casual observer is aware of what you're saying, CT: that the events of 9/11 were years in the making. When I hear someone say that the attack was a wake-up call or otherwise an unexpected assault on American freedom, I know that I am listening to someone who never gave one thought to world events until 9/11 allowed them to publicly exert their worst prejudices and darkest political natures.

Unfortunately, these people have had far too many counterparts in this most reactionary of American administrations. At least we're finally beginning to see a little sense among Congress in how to deal with this huge crisis of our own creation.

Incidentally, if the U.S. really cared about the Iraqis, they'd listen to the 70-ish percent of the population that wants us the hell out of there.

Greetings from Southern Iraq! In addition to serving proudly here, I am completing my Master's degree in criminal justice with a concentration in terrorism studies. I am writing a paper that compares the motivations of Timothy McVeigh's attack on the Murrah on OKC with discussion on where the next large domestic terrorist attack will come from in the U.S. I intend to show how the ever growing radicalism of the ultra-left socialist/anarchist "causologists" will carry out the next great horror in this country that comes from our own wack-job terrorists.
[I have the term 'causologist' in print so maybe i'll have to give you a guest posting to explain it to your fans]. In addition to being an infantryman in Iraq, I am also published in multiple papers and serve as a contributing editor for CENTCOM public affairs.

I would like to use some of your great photos in my paper and am asking your permission to show the "causologists" in their craziness in my efforts. I can be reached at: justicesoldier.charter.net

I'll shoot you a link to my site then.

Thanks for preaching the truth- from someone here seeing it with my own two eyes.

Ian...very easy to believe that everyone was as up on foreign affairs as we are, but you would be very mistaken. That's the challenge of being a political/news junkie is to realize we are in the minority and that the huge majority of folks have no clue what is going on. 60% of Americans can't name our VP and you think they new what was going on in a country they probably can still barely find on a map.

As much as don't like polls here and don't put nearly as much credit in them as some do, there is absolutely NO credit in Iraqi polls. I saw that first hand. They will always say the safest thing for them and right now in their minds the safest thing is to be against the Americans b/c they don't trust us to stay there and protect them until they can protect themselves thanks to the constant back stabbing by the Libs.

Being Southpaw hasn't answered my question, maybe you will. What will happen in Iraq and the region if we leave before Iraq can defend itself?

I'll bet Anon can answer that one for you.

Anon...thanks so much for your service both on the ground and with your words! thanks for fighting for the right of the Defeat Caucus in Congress to be idiots. Let your brother and sisters in arms know they have lots of true supporters back home!
