Another Disappointing Loss Due to Mental Errors

Well, after last night's disappointing 50-48 triple overtime loss to Arkansas, LSU has lost it's chance to try for a national championship this season. Once again too many mental errors cost them the game. This time the culprits were once again unnecessary penalties like illegal formation removing a very critical touchdown, way too many errant passes by Matt Flynn, and not capitalizing on opportunities like recovering a fumble on the 20 and only scoring a field goal.

Still have two more games left, but when your hopes are so high with the very real chance of making it to the national championship game, the SEC Championship and only a New Year's bowl game doesn't quite have the same appeal. Hopefully they will finish strong with an SEC Championship win and Sugar Bowl win and then start building for next year. That won't be an easy road though as I'm sure now the players hopes are just as dashed and they will have to dig deep to not give up on the season.

Update: Thanks to Southpaw in the comments section for reminding me that I wanted to give some props to McFadden as he definitely proved he should be in the Heisman mix with his performance as he ran all over the Tigers, especially in the red zone which has been our Achilles heel all season.

depending on how far LSU falls in the ranks and how far the MO-KS loser falls, LSU could still end up at number 4, 5 or 6. and if

-the MO/KS winner loses to OK,
-WV loses to Conn or Pitt
-TN loses,
-VA Tech loses to VA or BC
and LSU beats GA,
then LSU could end up playing Ohio St in the championship. Yes it's a long shot, but it's still a possibility, especially this season.

yeah, but I think LSU will drop further being it is their second loss, not saying I think they should but just guessing they will. This has definitely been a wild season.

May have been some mental errors, but McFadden made your defense look a little like swiss cheese...

sorry...i meant to give McFadden some props in the post and forgot...I'll add that now =)

Not to take anything away from McFadden but...Pelini's defense is obviously overrated. The defense has been non-exsistant since the South Carolina game. Does Nebraska really want this guy as HEAD coach?

I say Tebow for Heisman with McFadden 2nd.

CT,

do you realize that if Arizona State and/or Hawaii loses next week, Illinois has a shot at a BCS bowl game, which would probably mean that you and I would have to square off. : ) but I'm not worried; if our friendship can survive our political bouts, it can survive this.

oh, and you know as well as I do that while LSU is the better team, if they don't bring their A game, Illinois has a shot at being a giant killer again...

Well I'd have to point out the most recent pairing of LSU and Illinois in a BCS game down in New Orleans back in 2001 ;)

I have friends at church who moved to KC from Louisiana after Katrina. They are huge LSU fans and were bummed about the loss.

Their 6 year old son is in my Children's Church group and he was talking about bad Arkansas ;-).

Also, the game between Missouri and Kansas was all everyone could talk about here this past Saturday because we have fans from both sides here because of KC being on the state line.

Yeah that must have been the talk of town for sure. I was predicting a Missouri win =) However, now I'm cheering for a Missouri lost this weekend ;)
