Elections Bring Results

If the SD Gov signs this bill into law (all indications are that he will), it will be the first major test of the new Roberts/Alito Supreme Court on how they will view states' rights and Roe v Wade. Look for all hell to break loose from the pro-abortion crowd if he signs it.

And thus the radical right begins its power play.

It's very telling that the right has to rewrite so many laws. As if they couldn't function legally under the same laws we've had for decades.

Laws that kill 2 million babies a year should be changed.

The leftist southpaw said...

Yes they should- if they existed.

But there are no such laws.

Right again.

But there are no such laws.

Ian - And please tell my how you gather from the Constitution that it is legal to murder unborn babies? That was the most over reaching court decision ever made and it is time for the decision to go back to the states and the people where this murderous procedure will be sent to the trash heap where it belongs.

Southpaw - you are right in that there is no specific law that allows for abortion. Only several very bad court decisions that need to be overturned to allow the decision to go back to the states and the people who had laws and continue to make laws outlawing this murderous procedure only to be blocked by an unelected branch that is way out of Consitutional bounds on those decisions.

The liberal reign on the courts is coming to an end and finally more adhereance to the orginial intent of the Constitution will be the result.

Fine. If states should have the autonomy to decide abortion law, they should also have the autonomy to decide who can mary who.

When Vermont made gay marriage legal, the battlecry of the right was that one state should not be able to dictate policy to an entire nation. That is EXACTLY what South Dakota is doing now, by creating a law that will go through the courts in an attempt to outlaw abortion nationwide.

Liberal reign on the courts? I believe (not entirely sure of the exact number) that over 70% of the judges on the federal bench were appointed by Reagan or Bush I.

Southpaw...your analysis is flawed b/c it wasn't the state (the people) who voted for gay marriage. It was the courts once again who forced their will, gay marriage, on the people. Every time the people have been allowed to vote they have overwhelmingly voted down gay marriage and will continue to do so.

If the right truly cared for life, they wouldn't allow the government to be the ultimate authority on it, as they would be with illegal abortion and the death penalty.

Roe v. Wade does not promote abortion any more than rescinding it will end abortion. All it states is that abortion is a personal matter. If you don't condone it, don't do it. I don't, but I can't speak for all people in that situation. Neither do you.

Roe v Wade blocks states from making laws to outlaw the murder of innocent defenseless babies, pure and simple!

The leftist southpaw said...

CT, have you even read Roe v. Wade?

Once again, you fail to show an understanding of the separation of powers. There is a reason the judiciary is not elected- so it is not beholden to politics and trends.

Over 40 million since Roe v Wade gentlemen...and counting.

Southpaw...where is my reasoning wrong? Roe v Wade overturned a state law banning abortions thus forcing all states to allow abortions on a completely made up right that is found no where in the Constitution. It needs to be overturned and I pray that day is soon.

And I always love how much liberals cry over an abortion doctor dying, which by the way the person who did it should face the death penalty and is in no way innocent or justified in their actions, yet you refuse to care about the millions of babies that have been killed just so that women can be saved from the inconvenience of having to raise the baby.

I'm all for women having the right to choose...they have the right to choose whether or not they are prepared to raise a baby before they have sex. Abortion has become just another form of birth control and that is just plain horrendous.

The problem is that you don't see a baby, but only a clump of cells. Liberals fight harder to save a chicken from the "mental anguish" of their living conditions before becoming a Popeyes 3-piece dinner than they do another human being which is very sad.

Nick brings up parial birth abortion which is the lowest of the lows. Their is no instance where a partial birth abortion would need to be done to save the life of the mother. Think about it. If for whatever reason a baby needs to be born prematurely b/c the mother's life is at risk you have two options, C-section or induce labor, neither of which requires you to kill the baby. On the other hand a partial birth abortion involves inducing labor, turning the baby around inside the womb to make sure it comes out feet first, stopping the birth midway before the head comes out, shoving a needle in the back of the babies brain to kill it, then let it come out the rest of the way. How, will someone please tell me all that is required to save the life of the mother EVER??? That line is just a loop hole to keep abortions legal, plain and simple.

Southpaw, If a pregnant woman is murdered and the baby also dies while in the womb, is it one or two counts of murder?

Ron...that is a great question that will get to the fundamental issue of this discussion...Southpaw...you're up...Ian...care to answer as well?
