My Sentiments Exactly

"Maybe it's just me, but while Iran is trying to get its hand on a nuke; while armed and uniformed Mexicans are shooting at U.S. law enforcement personnel along our borders; while congress is spending us into oblivion --- I somehow find it hard to get worked up over how we learned that Dick Cheney bagged an attorney."

A friend of mine told me last night we had no reason to be in Iraq anymore. Aside from the "helping the people with their new democratic government" comment, I wasn't sure what else to say. And he debated with me on that saying they were already set up over there to take care of themselves and we're only there for political and financial gain. I was like, huh? So Shane, why are we still in Iraq?

First off I take major issue that we are here for financial gain considering it is costing us billions to be here.

Yes, it is true that the government has been elected and is up and running. However, the Iraqi army and security forces are not yet at the level they need to be to defend the country from the insurgents.

If we were to leave now, the country would turn into a haven even worse than Afghanistan was and it would embolden the terrorists, because they would clearly view it as a victory.

The President has said and I agree that when the Iraqi forces are capable of completely defending their country, then we can leave and not a second sooner.

A lot of the reason we are in the mess we are in now is because we left to early in '91 after saying we would support them until independence.

Thankfully 'W' is making the same mistake as his father did.

Thanks, I wish I could've logically answered that question last night. People repeat the media all of the time and I'm not sure how I can get my information otherwise. All the media is telling us is that there is no reason for us to still be in Iraq, that we're repeating Vietnam, etc.

Glad I could help =)

That's b/c the media never wanted us there in the first place, so of course they don't see any reason to be there now.

I completely believed that we needed to be here before, but after being here for only two and a half weeks I believe so now more than ever.
