Momentum Building

Another state, Mississippi, is a step closer to passing new legislation to ban nearly all abortions. Let the flood gates open to finally protect the unborn children!!!

Perhaps "floodgates" isn't the best choice of words after Katrina.

hay i've got a funny for you:

One day a florist goes to a barber for a haircut. After the cut he asked about his bill and the barber replies: “I’m sorry, I cannot accept money from you; I’m doing community service this week” The florist is pleased and leaves the shop. Next morning when the barber goes to open there is a thank you card and a dozen roses waiting for him at his door.

Later, a cop comes in for a haircut, and when he goes to pay his bill the barber again replies: “I’m sorry, I cannot accept money from you; I’m doing community service this week.” The cop is happy and leaves the shop. Next morning when the barber goes to open up there is a thank you card and a dozen donuts waiting for him at his door.

Later a Republican comes in for a haircut, and when he goes to pay his bill the barber again replies: “I’m sorry, I cannot accept money from you; I’m doing community service this week.” The Republican is very happy and leaves the shop. Next morning when the barber goes to open, there is a thank you card and a dozen different books such as “How to Improve Your Business” and “Becoming More Successful.”

Then a Democrat comes in for a haircut, and when he goes to pay his bill the barber again replies: “I’m sorry, I cannot accept money from you; I’m doing community service this week.” The Democrat is very happy and leaves the shop. The next morning when the barber goes to open up, there are a dozen Democrats lined up waiting for a free haircut.

And that, my friends, illustrates the fundamental difference between left and right.

I don't get it.

Unless your trying to say that Democrats know how to take advantage of a good opportunity when they see it.

Either that, or you are trying to reinforce the stereotype that all cops like doughnuts.

Is that it?

Ian...so b/c there was a flood in NO means I can never in my life again use the term floodgates? That makes absolutely on sense especially being my post had nothing to do with floods or NO or hurricanes.

Southpaw...it is a JOKE...laugh...if you don't learn to do that every now and then and not get all bent out of shape at every opportunity you will have a heart attack by the time you are 40 (assuming you aren't 40 yet).

You didn't see me get all bent out of shape over the Cheney parody. I even posted it on my blog b/c it was funny even though it made him look like an idiot.

CT, I laugh at almost everything- that's funny. I have a great sense of humor, own every episode of the Simpsons on DVD, and can recite every line from the Blues Brothers. You read my blog, you know that I have a sense of humor, albeit slightly warped.

Really- I don't get the joke.

Help me out here.

Southpaw...if I explain the laugh I get out of it, you have to promise not to go off on a rant why that doesn't represent you and just laugh at the sterotype like all the other sterotypes in the joke.

I laughed b/c while everyone else was motivated by the barber's generosity and decided to return the favor, the Dem took advantage of the man's generosity and sent all his friends over to get something for nothing...ie welfare, free medical care, etc.

Thank you.

What the Republican is really saying with those business books is that the barber was an idiot for giving out the free haircut. Of course, the Republican didn't object at the time, and has no intention of paying now, because they're cheap and they want to run the barber out of business so they can open up Wal-Mart Cutz across the street.

As for the New Orleans situation, could it be that the poorest areas were the most destroyed in the first place, and that the people forced out of there can't or aren't being brought back to rebuild?

I've met at least one person who pumped their fist at the prospect of "those people" being gone for good, so that the Republicans can finally take over New Orleans. Katrina really brought out the ugliness in people, and I'm ashamed to be aligned with these people.

ian...the poorest areas weren't the worst destroyed...the areas on the lakefront were hit far worst and lost a greater proportion of people.

bmartin's point is dead on...instead of just continuting to complain of how the govt isn't coming and fixing all the problems, why not just go and fix them.
