Putting the Gas "Crisis" in Perspective

"On the panic in the streets about $3.00 gasoline:

First of all, the Democrats wailing and whining about the high prices have forgotten they are supposed to be friends of the Greens. Higher gas prices. Less driving. Less driving. Less greenhouse gasses. Why isn't Nancy Pelosi cheering high gasoline prices?

When I was in Paris a few weeks ago, I noted gasoline was 2.55 Euros per Liter. Tell me if I did this right: There are 3.78 Liters per gallon. 2.55 Euros is $3.17. $3.17 x 3.78 = $11.98 per gallon.

I am in New York as I type this, so I went to a local grocery store and bought a bottle of water. 99 cents. 16.9 fluid ounces. For those who slept through this in third grade, there are 128 ounces to the gallon. 99 cents for 16.9 ounces = $7.50 per gallon. For water.

Get me Nancy Pelosi on the phone."

Does your hypocrisy know no bounds?

you know as well as I do that Republicans are whining about high gas prices too, so do not portray this as an issue that the Democrats have a monopoly on.

You post this piece, saying that high gas prices really should be put in perspective. Previously, you posted a piece praising Ann Coulter and her Democrat bashing because they want to tax gasoline, inflating the price.

SO, which is it? accept higher gas prices and move on? blame the democrats for something that did not even happen on their watch?

What's that you say? both? OK. Please tell me if there is a name for this fantasy world you live in. I'd like to visit some time.

Southpaw...you might want to double think your wish of visiting my world...b/c you may learn how to address the facts of a post instead of just throwing mud and trying to divert the topic.

The quote says nothing about Repubs b/c it was aimed at Dems who if they were true to their convictions would praise high prices due to less driving, less greenhouse gas emissions, plug in enviromental wacko rant of your liking, etc. That was the point of the first paragraph.

As always you fail to address the facts that hurt your rant, so I'll spare the rehash of the next two paragraphs in the post until you decide to give an opinion on the facts presented.

I'm definitely upset with Repubs who are whining and contemplating stabbing their base in the back if they penalize Big Oil for being successful. If they do that, there will be a big revolt from the base, which I'm sure you wouldn't mind politically.

I don't just accept higher prices. If you read the links on this post, mainly Chatterbox's one, you will see the solutions that would fix the problem long term. In case you don't have the time to surf over...more drilling, more refineries, more nuclear plants, less stupid regulations, more alternative fuels/energy sources.

Now to say Dems didn't cause the problem, that is where your fantasy world begins. We are here purely b/c of liberal policies exactly the opposite of the solutions proposed above. Add all those together along with raising taxes every chance they get, is the reason we are where we are today.

You might want to remind the man who wrote the article you posted that when he bought a bottle of water for .99 in New York he was NOT paying for water. He was first of all, paying for what was probably non-reyclable plastic, which Republicans seems to love but NEVER want to pay for no matter what stage it's in. Second, he was paying for cleanliness...don't whine and complain about the price of water when you could have gone to the nearest fountain and drank up all that New York had to offer, including dirt and sulphur and probably rat poison. Third, and this is the kicker...if it was a bottle with one of those nifty little sports tops, every Republican in the whole wide world owes me .50 because Republicans seem to always do anything for luxury.

And while I have not had the pleasure of surfing through Chatterbox's blog and won't start a thread here relating to it, it seems that it just contains a bunch of the same bull. Nuclear power does NOT help. You have to ask yourself what you are willing to sacrifice...OXYGEN??? CLEAN WATER??? GRASS??? HEALTHY CHILDREN??? It has been proven that the equipment and toxins needed to produce Nuclear power can damage everything we hold dear as human beings.
I used to attend Southern Utah University. When they decided to cart all that leftover Nuclear dump waste to the Yucca mountains we were warned that if one, count it, ONE barrel of that stuff was to get dropped off that truck and combust, all of Southern Utah would be one big f'in crater. And not just Utah...the force of that...stuff created by your Nuclear power plants...would have also taken out part of Arizona and Nevada. ONE BARREL! Can you imagine the catastrophe if that truck had jack-knifed and fell off the road??? YOU GUYS WOULDN'T EVEN BE HERE. 95% of the United States would be GONE. NON-EXISTENT. GONE. And Republicans want to create more of that stuff. Hmmm...so then Iran can get pissed off and all they have to do is shoot a bullet out of .45 into the Yucca Mountains and we'll all be dead...THEY WIN!
Nuclear power is NOT a game. And it is NOT a solution. And that is just one example. Think of the harmful effects of just having that stuff around. I could sit here for hours telling you about the terrible things that have happened to Indian tribes who are suckered into holding that stuff on their reservations.
More drilling and more refineries do not help when there is NOWHERE to drill. You can't go blowing up every country that won't give us oil. And we can't decide that cars are more important than LIFE. That's just asking for Armageddon to show up a few eons early.
Regulations actually have purposes. If you ever sat down and read through one...I mean the actual manuscript instead of just the pieces that Republican parties pulls out and twists around like panties on an ill-bred cheerleader, you'd see that the premise is good. They could probably use a little tweakin' but they're on the right track.
In case you hadn't noticed, and this is especially for chatterbox, we've been working on alternatives for DECADES. If Republicans would put money into it instead of saying its stupid, then we might have a chance. And since you brought it up...I'm on the list for the next great hybrid...ARE YOU??? Because if you're not, you don't really have a lot of room to complain and make suggestions. That's not a personal attack, just political pragmatism...don't argue for something you don't even believe in.
Please, Republicans...THINK before you decide you KNOW how to solve a problem.

Speechie...well...hate to burst your bubble, but I have looked into hybrids, but I have yet to find one that I like at an affordable price. If a company makes one that I like the look and is safe and reasonably priced, I'd buy one in a second.

As far as you nuclear rant, you make a lot of claims with no evidence to back any of it up, and most of it is just so off base, I wouldn't know where to start. I'm sorry but one barrel leak would not destroy the whole country.

Apparently according to you, there are thousands of people dying around the current nuclear plants we currently have. Most be another government coverup that this news in not out yet.

There are tons of places to drill, but liberals continue to block us from doing so.

Once again you fall into the typical liberal mantra of trashing the other side, but never giving solutions for the problem.

Now I know why my hair keeps falling out! I live 25 miles from a nuclear power plant!
